Case study: MoveOn.org

MoveOn.org is the original and one of the largest progressive advocacy groups. They had settled on using FEC file for their filing tool, but they needed help getting their large volume of contributions quickly and accurately reported.

Working with different data types

We received contribution data of several different types - earmarks, direct, inkind, and in excel sheets.

We needed to get this data into a Schedule A and Schedule B format. Using our Upload Engine we were able to easily map each disparate data format to the common fields for reporting donors and transactions. Our engine then imported this data, name matching and address validating along the way. For the earmark contributions, our software looked up the candidate and committee information and pulled it into the FEC schedules. The Schedule B was then extrapolated from the contribution data and both sets of data were put into the latest FEC format.

By producing the Schedules A & B directly in the latest FEC format, their compliance staff was able to pull the data directly into FEC file, quickly and accurately compiling their reports.
